Morocco to Develop New Relations between State & Regions to Address Spatial Inequalities

Rabat - Morocco will develop new relations between the State and regions to overcome spatial inequalities, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, Drais Cherki, said Monday in Rabat.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Parliamentary Forum of Regions, organized by the House of Councilors, Drais stressed that "new relations will develop in the near future between the State and regions within the framework of cooperation, partnership and contracting to overcome spatial inequalities and enable poor and remote regions to build the basic infrastructure necessary for a decent life for all citizens".

He pointed out that all regions can exercise their competences and have their own financial resources as well as the resources allocated by the State, he said, recalling that the organic law on regions includes clear provisions for the reinforcement of their financial resources by allocating 5 pc of the corporate tax, 5 pc of the income tax and 20 pc of the tax on insurance contracts.

The Minister added "other funds are allocated from the general budget of the State in order to reach 10 billion dirhams by 2021", adding that "2 billion dirhams were allocated to the regions in the 2016 finance law, which will be reinforced each year by the amounts needed to reach the overall amount".
