Morocco's Govt., WIPO Ink MoU in Rabat



Rabat – The Moroccan Government and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) signed, here Thursday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on copyright and related rights.



Signed by Morocco’s Communication Minister, Government spokesman, Mustapha El Khalfi, and WIPO Director General, Francis Gurry, the Memorandum aims at promoting and coordinating joint activities between the government and this international organization to promote the protection of intellectual property in Morocco.

The agreement provides for a series of measures, namely supporting Morocco in upgrading the Moroccan Office of copyright and related rights, through improving the legal and operational framework, particularly mechanisms relating to collection and distribution operations, management of documents and electronic programmes, implementation of private copying in accordance with the strategic directions of the Moroccan Government.

Speaking on this occasion, El Khalfi said that the Memorandum would give a strong impetus to cooperation relations and partnership between the Moroccan Office of copyright and related rights and WIPO.

For his part, WIPO’s Director General described as "important event" the signing of this Memorandum, which aims to help meet the challenges of the digital revolution and technological change.
