Moroccan-French Exceptional relations to Facilitate COP22 Success

Paris - Moroccan-French exceptional relations constitute an important aspect for the success of the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP 22), scheduled next November in Marrakech, said here Wednesday, Foreign Minister, Salaheddine Mezouar.

Marrakech's conference is a continuation of the Paris agreement spirit which was a turning point for humanity, said Mezouar at the opening of the economic meetings of the Arab world Institute (IMA), held under the theme "energy transition: economic and environmental opportunities in the Arab world."

Hailing energy transition in several countries, Mezouar underlined that Morocco is strongly committed, under the wise leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to this dynamic as evidenced by the large-scale solar projects initiated in Morocco, notably the Ouarzazate solar plant.

He also stressed the importance of encouraging initiatives taken by Arab countries that are increasingly conscious about the effects of climate change, calling for supporting projects in Africa, with the aim to promote the development of clean energy.

For her part, French Environment Minister and President of COP 21, Segolene Royal, said that the fight against climate change cannot succeed without an energy transition and the involvement of Arab countries.

She also praised Morocco’s efforts under the leadership of HM the King in promoting clean energy.
