More Than Mere Misunderstanding, UNSG Statements Cannot be Justified nor Obliterated, Says FM

Rabat - More than a mere Misunderstanding, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's statements cannot be justified nor obliterated, Morocco's Foreign ministry said Tuesday, reiterating Morocco's willingness to engage in responsible and constructive dialogue about the crisis provoked by these statements.
UNSG acts "seriously jeopardize the fundamental principles of the facilitation mandate assigned by the Security Council, and run contrary to the requirement of neutrality and impartiality which the UN Secretary General should comply with", underlined the Foreign ministry spokesperson, who was asked by various media outlets to comment on the latest developments in the crisis between Morocco and the UN Secretary General.

The spokesperson pointed out that "Morocco considers that these premeditated acts aim to alter the nature of the dispute and prejudge its outcome. This is no more and no less than a total alignment with the arguments of other parties".

Morocco is pleased that MINURSO continues to properly fulfill its mission of monitoring the cease-fire. The active and daily cooperation in the field continues normally, he underlined.

Moroccan authorities reiterated their commitment to bring all operational and logistical support to the military component of the Mission, the same source added.

The ministry spokesperson also stressed that "Morocco reiterates its readiness to engage in a responsible, comprehensive and constructive dialogue about the crisis provoked by the serious and inadmissible acts of the UN Secretary General".

"Morocco continues, in a committed and constructive manner, its interaction with the Security Council members, according to the call of the Council to engage in dialogue about the circumstances that led to the current situation", he said.

"The appropriate canals, framework and parameters for this dialogue have been identified", the spokesman said, noting that "Morocco spares no effort to engage in the mechanisms".
