ISESCO Calls on International Community to Take Urgent Actions to Save Aleppo City

Rabat - The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) called on the international community to take urgent actions to save the Syrian city of Aleppo, from "deliberate and mass destruction."

ISESCO said in a statement on Monday that the mass destruction of human beings and infrastructure in Aleppo constitutes "a humanitarian, environmental and architectural disaster” that is unprecedented in the world's contemporary history, even during first and second world wars.

Aleppo was selected in 2006 as capital of Islamic culture for the diversity of its historical monuments, and its rich and diverse cultural and scientific heritage, said the statement.

In this regard, ISESCO expressed surprise at the silence of the international community on disasters that ruin Syria, a member country of the United Nations, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC).

It also called on States, human rights organizations, religious and cultural institutions, as well as intellectual and media elites to express their explicit condemnation to the parties involved in the destruction of this cultural and humanitarian capital par excellence, and to join international efforts to end the massive destructive war that targets this historic city.
