ILO Chief Congratulates Morocco on Adoption of Domestic Work Law

Geneva - Director general of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder congratulated Morocco on its efforts seeking the promotion of international standards in the field of employment and social security, giving the example of the adoption of a law on domestic work.

"I thank you for all what you are doing to improve the working conditions of workers," said Ryder during a meeting with minister of employment and social affairs Abdeslam Seddiki who was accompanied by Morocco's permanent representative in Geneva, ambassador Mohamed Aujjar.

The bill adopted on Tuesday by the lower house provides for a proposal setting the minimum age of domestic work at 18. Domestic employees aged 16-18 could work for a provisional period of 5 years starting from the date of the law enforcement.

The ILO chief voiced his great satisfaction of cooperation relations with Morocco and its readiness to broaden them. He also hailed Morocco's ongoing commitment to implement the sustainable development goals by 2030 and its active contribution within multilateral bodies.

The meeting was held on sidelines of the 105th International Labor Conference.
