HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Patroness of UNESCO Africa Week

Paris - HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection and patroness of UNESCO’s Africa Week, on Monday gave the kick-off of the 2016 edition of this event.

Africa Week, which runs on May 23-27 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, is organized under the theme "African women facing the challenge climate".

The designation of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa patroness of UNESCO’s Africa Week, demonstrates the commitment of Her Royal Highness for environmental protection within the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection that she chaired since its creation by HM the King in June 2001.

This designation also mirrors the involvement of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa and her constant mobilization for the protection of environment. It also pays tribute to HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa as a symbol of African women’s active participation in the fight against climate change.

HRH succeeds as the patroness of this week to great African figures such as Nelson Mandela, Wangari Maathai and Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

Africa Week is an annual event organized by the African Permanent delegations to UNESCO which aims to increase the visibility of Africa by highlighting the diversity of its cultural and artistic heritage.
