COP22: 'Much Work Was Done' to Meet Morocco's commitments

Rabat – Moroccan Foreign Minister, Salaheddine Mezouar, said, Wednesday in Rabat, that "a lot of work has been done" to meet the commitments of Morocco, who chairs the next World climate Conference (COP22).

Since the establishment of the Steering Committee of the 22th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, "a lot of work has been done" to fulfil Morocco’s mandate,” said Mezouar, also chairman of steering committee in a statement to the press following the Interministerial Committee meeting for monitoring the preparation of the Conference.

The United Nations expectations after the Paris COP21, held in December 2015, are priorities for Morocco, he said, adding that the Kingdom has taken initiatives and set goals mainly targeting the States most exposed to the dangers of climate change, including African and developing countries.

The initiatives concern the agriculture field, food security, renewable energies and oases, he noted, adding that all these actions undertaken by Morocco aim at achieving the goal of Marrakech COP, which aspires to be a conference of action and the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement.
